Award winning Risk & Energy Optimisation Programme
Price and course duration: bespoke – please contact us at info@dc-oi.com for more information
Our risk & energy optimisation programme has enabled an average energy reduction of 12% with an ROI of 8 months.
Duffey & Saull showed that failure rate is a function of the accumulated learning experience of an organisation, and the depth of experience of an individual. To reduce risk, we must provide an environment where learning is possible, and knowledge can flow freely and blame-free between all teams. The same applies to reducing energy – it needs to be accepted that some might not understand the theory behind optimising their equipment, a learning environment provided, and changes made.
We have created a series of risk and energy modules to deepen participant understanding of the technical issues at their own site. This includes analysing air management in the data hall – an important enabler for energy savings. Each programme is highly interactive and bespoke to the facility, students and client objectives, and culminates in a presentation to management by participants of their findings and recommendations.
We have completed our programme at a number of different facilities, with varying designs and ages; in each case the outcome has been an action plan with a number of recommendations for improvement, even where best practice has already been implemented. To date our programme has enabled an average energy reduction of 12%, with an ROI of just 8 months.
- Eoin Doherty, Critical Facilities Manager
Course Objectives
Theoretical principles behind risk and energy reduction are analysed, and then applied by the data centre team to the systems specific to their facility - giving them ownership of optimising the facility's performance. The workshops address the importance of air management for reliability and its role as an energy enabler in the chosen facility. Recommendations for improvement will be identified for the facility by the operational team, with support from OI, and presented to the management team. The OI team facilitate the workshops, sharing theory and case studies and running practical activities, making the sessions interactive and engaging the participants in effective learning. The programmes are bespoke, and can be tailored (in length and content) to suit the client’s needs.
Course Benefits
Our experience as consultants delivering risk and energy assessments is that these have the best outcomes when conducted with the engagement and input of the operations team. By teaching the operations team the theory behind their facilities, they are better equipped to make energy and risk optimisation changes themselves. The benefits of our programme include:
• Reduced: energy, risk, PUE, and OPEX
• Innovative tools to measure and manage air performance
• Deeper technical knowledge
• Improved: skills, team communication, motivation and staff retention
• Teams empowered with the knowledge and confidence to make optimisation changes themselves
• Promotes innovation and continuous improvement
• Active engagement across all facility teams, and improved transfer of knowledge
• Improved teamwork, particular in the event of failure, due to clear communication channels
• Identification of human factors that impact the data centre
• Improved cross-disciplinary communication
Who will Benefit from our Programme?
Every member of every operations team, including all levels of management.
